SATAY KING 482 Jaffe Road Causeway Bay Tel: 2389-7319 Open: 11am-11pm Unless you have something special to offer, you might as well forget about starting a restaurant in Hong Kong. Satay King fits the bill.
After months of street-side promotion and bonus offers, the Satay King in Causeway Bay is finally taking off. Despite the name, this small restaurant does not make only satays. The chicken and pork satays may get a nod of approval from satay lovers but the colourful variety of Asian delicacies is the attraction.
Ask for the English menu if you need it, or else let your adventurous finger do the ordering. All the food items are priced well within everyone's budget and even the most expensive items on the menu (two versions of chef's platter for $49) will be kind to your pocket.
Most of the other items are $19 for the standard size, and $10 more for a larger portion. A big favourite is stuffed cockels ($19 for six) - the chopped meat of the shellfish mixed with herbs and spices and grilled to perfection before being presented in its shell.
The popular dish of spicy clams with chilli and black bean sauce is a healthy portion of succulent clams stir-fried in the traditional Cantonese way.
Six delicious morsels of the deep-fried chicken wrapped in 'bantan' leaves are a steal at $19, while the tom yum kung ($29) is traditional spicy Thai seafood soup. Although some of the ingredients are missing, the taste is authentic enough.
