It seems the Civil Aviation Department is a little behind the times. They have just released their annual report for April 1997 to March last year.
A fetching photo of Kai Tak is on the inside cover. There are also some nice shots of the dredged up sludge that later became Chek Lap Kok.
The report opens with a 'review' by 'Director of Civil Aviation', R. A. Siegal.
Of course, he doesn't actually work there anymore.
The introduction offers us a no-longer director's thoughts on the long ago transfer of a no-longer airport.
'The new airport will be operational early in the morning of 6 July 1998,' the now-retired Mr Siegal said.
'I am grateful for the professionalism and commitment of all involved, which I am sure will result in a very successful transition from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok.' Looks like someone had his head in the clouds.
