AS I am unable to tune into BFBS and find the ''more (of the same type of) music and less talk'' approach of the commercial stations bland, I have, over the past few years, regularly tuned into RTHK Radio Three. However, the recent changes in the format ofRadio Three programmes seems to be an attempt to duplicate the service offered by the commercial stations. A good example to cite is John Cole's programme, aired between 10 am and 1 pm daily. In the past, Mr Cole always played a wide variety of music, interspersed with interesting features and interviews on current affairs and the environment. We are now subjected to seemingly endless strains of '50s '60s and '70s music, which is surprising to say the least, considering RTHK is reputed to have one of the best music libraries in Asia. Features, interviews and indeed, any ''talk'' at all, appear to be things of the past. One cannot help but wonder why Radio Three continues to employ quality ''personality'' ''DJs'', such as John Cole, instead of people simply ''spinning'' pre-selected discs. Please, Ms Cheung Man-yee, recognise the need in Hongkong for an English language radio station which offers a broad spectrum of entertainment. The demand for ''golden oldies'' and constant music is already more than satisfied by the commercial stations. NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
