Plans for large-scale infrastructure projects do not need to be reassessed, despite the economic downturn, according to Secretary for Treasury Denise Yue Chung-yee.
'The Government does not project that the adverse economy will persist for a long time,' she said in response to a question from non-affiliated legislator Eric Li Ka-cheung.
Mr Li has asked whether the Government should reassess plans for the KCR West Rail project and Tseung Kwan O MTR extension.
Ms Yue said factors to be considered included expected fees, profitability and debt-repayment ability.
'Although in some individual cases, the predicted profitability might not match with the short-term situation, the need to reassess does not exist,' she said.
'Most of these large-scale projects have at least 40 years of service. The figures we calculate apply to the whole period of time.' Ms Yue said the directors of such businesses had the responsibility to maintain a stable financial situation.
