Trading company Matrix Industry has been accused of owing its 126 workers up to $1 billion in salaries. Seventy-seven staff had applied for emergency money from the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund, a Labour Department spokeswoman said yesterday.

The Kowloon Bay firm, which trades in ornaments and gift items to Europe and the United States, is listed on the stock exchange. It suspended trading on February 10, at a closing price of $0.04.
Company officials could not be reached for comment yesterday.
