Local hero Arjun Atwal won the US$300,000 Indian Open at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club yesterday by four strokes to post his first victory on the Asian PGA Tour.

After four promising years on the Tour, the Calcutta-born star won a tournament on home ground with a bogey-free two-under-par final round of 70 to take the winner's cheque of US$50,010.

Atwal finished on 12-under 276, with fellow local Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia on joint second to make it a memorable day for Indian golf.
