National People's Congress local deputies yesterday renewed their call for an office in Hong Kong.
Speaking after a whole-day, sub-group meeting on their role, deputy vice-convenor Ng Ching-fai said present arrangements to help the deputies carry out their work were unsatisfactory.
'The problem now is people do not know whom they can ask for help and where they can find us,' he said.
The supporting service provided by Xinhua was not sufficient, Mr Ng said.
'Although there is a library set up by the New China News Agency, it does not open everyday and is on the island,' he said.
Mr Ng denied setting up an office would be interference in SAR affairs.
'The policy is clear we do not meddle in the SAR Government's operations. But we are participating in national affairs on behalf of Hong Kong people who may want us to express opinions for them,' he said.
