A mansion bought by Britain's Queen Elizabeth for the Duchess of York and her two daughters has been put up for sale for GBP1.5 million (HK$18.8 million) after she refused to move into it, newspapers reported yesterday.

The Daily Mail said the queen had lost patience with wrangling over the duchess' seven-bedroom Birch Hall mansion in Surrey, southern England, and put it up for sale without telling Fergie, who claimed she could not afford its upkeep.

Royal aides said Fergie wanted more divorce cash from ex-husband Prince Andrew.

The trustees who own the house on behalf of daughters Beatrice and Eugenie reportedly put it up for sale on Monday.
