Young Poo-hee's letter headlined, 'Over-priced airline' (South China Morning Post, March 15) raised some intriguing points that do not just concern the people of Hong Kong.
As an aviation student at university in Sydney, Australia and a Hong Kong resident myself, I find Young Poo-hee's arguments to be flawed.
I do not agree that the level of service of some of the airlines mentioned, is 'just as good as' that of Cathay Pacific, nor do I agree with the point made about discounted tickets. Some of the international carriers serving Hong Kong cannot compete with Cathay and so lower their prices to lure customers.
Also, I disagree that Cathay seldom offers attractive packages and off-season discounts.
Check out a few travel agents in Australia and you would be amazed by the level of discounts the Hong Kong-based carrier is offering..
They match those offered by its direct local competitors.
