The auxiliary police chief admitted yesterday that some officers were dissatisfied over plans to cut the size of the part-time force.
'There is definitely some dissatisfaction. Does anyone like to see changes made to the way things are done?' said Commandant of the Auxiliary Police Force Peter Chau Cham-chiu.
He said the auxiliary police were like a maid who had been taking care of the children.
'Today the children are university graduates so why would you still need to keep the maid? 'Why don't you ask her to do something else?' He said he would try explain to officers the reasons behind the proposed reforms - such as growth in the strength of the regular police force and the low crime rate.
Mr Chau said he was only officially told about the proposed changes yesterday.
They would be implemented in stages starting from tomorrow.
