Fu takes impressive first step towards Crucible appearance
Marco Fu Ka-chun stayed on course for a date at the Crucible, snooker's hallowed hall, when he beat England's Jason Ferguson 10-1 in a qualifying game at the World Championships on Tuesday.
Fu, who waltzed into the last 128 with a quick-fire demolition job over the outclassed Ferguson, will meet another Englishman in the eighth round - Robert Milkins.
Milkins is ranked 99th in the world. But on form, Fu has the edge as he is currently ranked 39 in the world body's provisional ranking list.
'He needs to win another two matches to enter the Crucible. It will be a tremendous achievement if he does so,' said Joseph Lo, chairman of the Hong Kong Billiards and Snooker Control Council.
This is Fu's debut year on the professional circuit.
Fu led Ferguson 8-1 at the end of the morning session at the Telford Centre in Shropshire, England, and then came back later in the day to complete a convincing win in the best-of-19 frames match.
