Beijing yesterday released more details of the mainland's third national telecoms company, which will compete with China Telecom and China Unicom.
The Cable Television Network (Group) will offer value-added services such as Internet services as well as basic cable, according to the International Finance News.
The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, which oversees broadcasting policies, would lead the formation of the company, it said.
The administration, the Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Railways and the Shanghai municipal government would each take 25 per cent in the company.
Establishment of the company signalled the conclusion of the mainland's telecoms reform programme, said Chen Xiaoning, director of the administration's information department.
Mr Chen said the company could tap public funding to the tune of 'several hundred millions of yuan'.
