The Democratic Party has requested a meeting with the United Nations' human rights chief in Geneva next week. Legislator James To Kun-sun said the party had written to Mary Robinson, the UN Human Rights High Commissioner, asking for a meeting to discuss democracy in Hong Kong. Mrs Robinson would be briefed about the gloomy prospects for universal suffrage and the re-introduction of appointed seats to the district boards, he said. Mr To and the party chairman, Martin Lee Chu-ming, will fly to Geneva on Sunday to attend a UN Human Rights Commission meeting.
