Andrea Bocelli - Sogno (Polydor BV) There are the three tenors who make millions together, and then there is a fourth, a former piano-bar player, who seems to manage to make millions on his own . . . with a little help from his record company marketing department.
Since he was 'discovered' in 1992, when invited to make a demo disc of Miserere for Pavarotti, blind tenor Andrea Bocelli has consistently hit the top of the pop charts throughout Europe. His 1997 duet Time To Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman was so successful it became Italy's biggest selling single.
This latest cross-over album Sogno, meaning Dream, will be no disappointment to his fans. It is a mix not only of pop and classical styles but also of musical traditions from all over Europe.
The tip for the top track is The Prayer not because it is the best - it is too dreamily formulaic - but because it is sung with post-Titanic sensation Celine Dion. That Bocelli machine keeps moving forward.
