On other occasions it is embarrassingly mediocre. Ning Po Residents Association is maddeningly inconsistent.
It does have some dependable dishes. Cold plates - whether it is chicken soaked in rice wine, jellyfish with sesame oil, preserved meats or any of the cold vegetables - are always delicious, even on nights when the hot line seems to be having trouble.
Aside from these dishes, though, it is rather hit and miss.
On a good night, the braised pork leg with preserved vegetables is all it should be - meat that is almost as tender as the fatty skin surrounding it, a thick, deep brown sauce, rich with the flavour of the vegetables.
On off nights, the meat is tough and stringy and the sauce is watery.
