KATSU Wada, the mother of Yaohan group chairman Kazuo Wada and senior adviser to Yaohan Japan, has died in Japan at the age of 86.
Mrs Wada was born in 1906. She married Ryohei Wada in 1928 and they opened the first Yaohan greengrocer's store two years later.
The shop was the foundation of today's multi-national Yaohan Group, which includes department stores in Hongkong.

She had received many official honours, including an award from the Emperor known as the Dark Blue Ribbon. This was for giving much of her personal fortune to charity.
A private funeral will be held on Saturday in Japan.
