A woman, 72, who claimed a bank teller swindled her out of $10,000 yesterday lost her battle to get the money back at a Small Claims Tribunal hearing.
Lee Pui-har sued the Zhe Jiang Commercial Bank for $10,000, claiming teller Hung Ngai-ling was responsible for the missing money.
Adjudicator Andrew Ma Hon-cheung dismissed Ms Lee's claim because she had failed to prove that bank negligence had led to the loss.
Ms Lee testified yesterday she went to the bank at Ngau Tau Kok on April 18, 1997, and withdrew $12,000.
She said Ms Hung asked her to sign two withdrawal slips and she did not object because she thought there must have been a problem with the first slip.
Ms Lee said she had checked the balance and the amount deducted before leaving the bank.
