SECRET banking codes and sworn triad rituals - backed-up by threats and violence - formed the backbone of the 14K triad society's suspected rackets in and around Macau's casinos, prosecutors claim.

Prosecutors allege that the 14K's suspected boss, 'Broken Tooth' Wan Kuok-koi and his lieutenants, used a 'complex parallel banking system' to funnel racketeering proceeds back into the organisation.

The indictment alleges that proceeds of suspected illegal betting, loansharking, extortion, arms procurement and drug trafficking were hidden by an accounting system based on secret codes.

And, prosecutors allege, in a bid to nullify action against them, the secret society had nine radios which could intercept Macau police communications.

The radios, plus eight cars, nine properties and millions of dollars from more than 100 bank accounts, have been seized and/or frozen by the courts, legal documents show.

Wan, 43, and his nine co-accused are expected to appear in court later this week to face charges ranging from criminal intimidation to membership of a triad society. They are alleged to have held specific, key jobs in the organisation, with Wan at the head.
