A City University (CityU) subsidiary has become the first local company to win a prestigious inter national software award.
Advanced Object Technologies recently won the Innovative Application Award from the Amer ican Association for Artificial Intelligence for its Stand Allocation System software installed at Chek Lap Kok airport.
Launched 10 years ago, this award recognises the successful use of artificial intelligence in solv ing real-life problems.
Dr Andy Chun, company managing director and associate professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering at CityU, is the pioneer behind the new software. The award is another feather in Dr Chun's cap. Last May, he won an Applied Research Excellence Award from CityU, followed by the Innovator Award from EDN Asia Magazine in August.
The CityU software helps assign parking stands to aircraft and schedule their ground movements.
It ensures a high standard of customer service and airport safety, while providing planning, time-management and problem-solving capabil ities to enable the control tower to handle any type of emergency.
