HSBC has formed a regional partnership with two leading airlines to allow its credit cardholders to participate in their frequent flier programmes.

Joining forces with Cathay Pacific Airways and United Airlines allows HSBC cardholders to redeem mileage through Cathay's Asia Miles programme and United's Mileage Plus scheme.

Together, the two programmes enable cardholders to redeem free travel with 30 different airlines.

Geoff Bruce, head of cards Asia-Pacific, said Hong Kong was the first market in Asia where the HSBC Mileage Rewards programme was being introduced. The bank plans to launch similar credit card reward programmes across the region.

Every Hong Kong dollar purchase made on the credit card earns one bonus point, and every eight bonus points can be converted to one kilometre.
