A man and two women cashed forged cheques worth a total of about $130,000 against the account of the chairman of Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting, a court heard yesterday.
Prosecutor Steve Chui told the District Court that George Joseph Ho, chairman of the radio broadcaster, lost three cheque books in September last year and had informed the Bank of East Asia about this.
On September 20, Li Cheuk-kwan, 24, the gang's sole male, gave two forged cheques to a property agent for a $26,600 rent payment on a room situated in Yau Ma Tei.
Yue Un-chow, 25, produced a forged cheque and withdrew $19,000 from the bank on September 21.
In the next two days, Tsang Ka-wai, 17, opened two bank accounts with another person's ID card and cashed in two forged cheques totalling almost $80,000.
Judge Esther Toh Lye-ping adjourned the case until May 14 for reports.
