A fleet of 44 buses recently bought by New World First Bus is being recalled for repairs after one caught fire last week.
The electricity control panels behind the drivers' seats in the new Dennis Trident vehicles will be overhauled after a fire forced a bus to be evacuated in Admiralty last Wednesday.
Two engineers flown out from chassis-maker Dennis and body-maker Duple Metsec in Britain found the panel was overheating, New World First Bus assistant general manager Kwan Chuk-fai said.
'We are modifying a new control panel to more evenly distribute the power supply between different sockets and provide more space so heat can dissipate,' he said.
Non-flammable materials would also be used to contain any fires.
About 20 buses had already been repaired and a further would be fixed in the next two days, Mr Kwan said.
