BBC presenter Jill Dando received a letter from a suspected Serb extremist complaining about her appearance in a charity appeal for Kosovo refugees days before she was shot dead, police disclosed.
Scotland Yard yesterday issued a computer-generated image of a man suspected of killing Dando, 37, with a single shot to her head on Monday morning.
Police said the image was based on descriptions by witnesses of a well-dressed white man with thick black hair and a floppy fringe seen running away from the scene of the attack.
They admitted they had yet to find a motive for the shooting by the man who used a 9mm semi-automatic.
But they now believe the attacker acted with the help of an accomplice seen nearby in a blue Range Rover.
'This is a very intensive inquiry and a lot of information is still coming in . . . these people will be caught,' said Detective Chief Inspector Hamish Campbell.
'I am not in a position to say if she knew her killer or not. We have to determine why Jill Dando was killed.' But he said police had not ruled out the possibility that she was the victim of Serb terrorism for her role in presenting a televised appeal seeking aid for Kosovar refugees.
