The buses will feature location tracking, Internet access for flight information, traffic conditions and events for tourists, as well as radiolink and arrival/departure information.

John Holden, chief engineer of HIL, said Hong Kong's public transport system would be revolutionised within three years when the first environment friendly 'intelligent bus' rolled on to the streets.

Due to environmental concerns, all buses would be made this way in 20 years, he said.

'We are addressing concerns on pollution by introducing the next generation of passenger service vehicles.' He said he expected the firm - Intelligent Motors - to turn a profit in a short period of time.

Kantone chief executive Peter Kan Man Lee said a decision had not been reached on the location of the assembly plant and that he was having trouble convincing his partners it should be Hong Kong.
