'Impartial Grandpa Tung' lost for words in the name game
Mr Tung was lost for words in the debate on a new name for Government House.
A committee headed by Executive Councillor Leung Chun-ying has called for more suggestions from the public after adverse reaction to the original chi lo. Legislators have denounced it as 'absurd' and 'weird'.
Mr Tung favours chi lo: chi refers to the bauhinia flower or 'purple air from the east', and lo means a humble cottage or workplace.
Andrew Wong Wang-fat, non-affiliated, said that since Mr Tung did not intend to move into the Upper Albert Road mansion, a name-change was unnecessary.
Mr Tung maintained he was uninvolved in the selection. 'I have seven grandchildren but none of their names were given by me,' he said.
'I leave that to their fathers and mothers. Being their grandfather, I really don't want to do that,' he said.
