There have been few winners more impressive on debut than Universal Winner when he scored in March last year.
But since that resounding success things have not totally gone the way of the Francis K. W. Lui-trained galloper and he has only been to the racecourse on five occasions.
He did manage to win his second start but has not experienced a lot of luck at his last two outings. Last time out he ran into plenty of trouble before finishing a luckless eighth to Toymark under Jimmy K. H. Ting.
Since then, however, the son of Prego has been a consistent track star and yesterday he impressed as he stretched out in great style the last 200 metres of a 1,200-metre gallop with Shadeyiev.
His two wins have seen him rise a long way in the ratings but he looks more than capable of winning a race before season's end.
Stablemate Somluck also caught the eye as he went over 800 metres for Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Chris Munce.
