A retired woman lost $1 million in a scam in Hunghom when three men involved her in a bogus deal to sell electrical components, police said.
The woman, 58, was approached by a man who offered her $300 to mind his car while he sought help to repair a tyre.
Another man who joined them offered to buy electrical capacitors the vehicle owner was carrying, a police spokesman said. They reached a deal to sell them for $300 each and the owner left.
A third man joined the man and the woman and offered to buy the capacitors for $500 each. The man told the woman she could buy them at $300 each and sell them to the third man for $500.
She agreed and later went to the bank to withdraw $1 million, the spokesman said.
The woman handed over the money to the car owner and was given 40 packs each containing 100 capacitors.
