Emirates' SkyChain puts clients in touch

Emirates SkyCargo has launched a hi-tech, integrated system offering customers easy access to information via the Internet and e-mail.

The on-line system, known as SkyChain, can be used by shippers and consignees to check Emirates schedules, trace and track consignments, check cargo space availability, register as a Emirates SkyCargo customer and make bookings.

Emirates senior general manager Ram Menen said the carrier's vision had always been to create a pipeline through which information could travel freely to and from anyone in the supply chain.

SkyChain, which is a network of integrated systems, will launch its products in stages this year.

Emirates' original cargo automation system, SITA Fast IV, will be transformed into a network of cargo information and business support systems.

Hugh Pride, senior general manager of Mercator, the Emirates group's IT subsidiary, said Emirates had carried out a worldwide, internal upgrade of all systems.
