Time to stop whingeing

Why you can trust SCMP

Can we please all call a halt to the moaning letters about the Lamma ferries with people complaining about, among other things, how unsafe the vessels are? I am sure if the Marine Department, the real experts on marine safety, thought them unsafe to carry passengers, the company would never have been granted a licence.

In comparison to the old Hongkong & Yaumati Ferry Company service, yes, the 'slow' boats are smaller, so will rock a little more. I take it the people complaining never go on junks on a weekend. The boats are, however, all air-conditioned, do not have leaky plastic rain sheets on the side as they all have proper walls and windows, do not smell or belch diesel fumes, and are, in general, tidier and cleaner. The 'fast' ferries are exactly the same as the ones we had before with the exception of the old hovercraft, so why are people complaining about them now and not 18 months ago when they were first introduced? As for the person complaining that 'not all the staff speak English', may I remind them that they live in South China, not Southend.

If people are still not happy, perhaps they should move to some place where they can take the MTR or a bus to town.
