Expressway speed limits for lorries under review

1-MIN READ1-MIN

Speed limits for medium to heavy lorries on expressways are being reviewed.

The move follows an increase in limits on expressways for some motorists in March.

But about 40,000 medium and heavy goods lorry drivers said the old 70km/h limit should also be relaxed for their vehicles.

Mixer Trucks Drivers Association chairman Chan Sam-choi said: 'With the speed having been lifted for other vehicles, it made medium and heavy lorries in the slow lane look clumsier and snail-like on expressways and interrupted traffic flow.' The group called for an 80km/h limit.

The Transport Department said it expected to reach a conclusion by the end of the year.

Motor Transport Workers' General Union chairman Li Wing-sang said his union supported the relaxation call.
