Individual designers from home-grown jewellery retail chains such as Chow Sang Sang and Tse Sui Luen are among the finalists of the De Beers Diamonds International Awards 2000, a six-monthly event set up to find the world's most innovative jewellery designs.
The Asia-Pacific segment of the international contest drew more than 1,000 entries - 56 from Hong Kong including a diamond necklace designed by Molly Yeung, below. The results will be announced at a gala show next January in Paris, during spring/summer 2000 haute couture week.
Gieves gets hip Younger or 'diffusion' lines are par for the course in the increasingly multi-level fashion industry. Now, even Gieves & Hawkes, the erstwhile Savile Row bespoke tailor, is coming up with a more modern and trendy line. Simply called 'Gieves', the collection will be unveiled in London on May 26. Designed by in-house design director James Whishaw, the line will be brought to Hong Kong in September.
Watching Gucci The Gucci watch was among fashion's biggest sellers when it was launched a couple of years ago, with waiting-lists stretching to dozens.
Building on that success, the company has just unveiled a new timepiece. The stainless steel watch has a much more sporty design than its predecessor and will be launched in Gucci stores worldwide this autumn.
