Champion trainer David Hayes sent out a strong signal to the pretenders to his crown on Wednesday night at Sha Tin with a timely double to stretch his lead at the top of the standings.
And trackwork yesterday indicated that it will take a big effort from any of his pursuers to peg him back.
Hayes matched the promising Red In Green with Celestial Chief and Joyful Star and the trio worked solidly over 800 metres.
Red In Green is down to contest a 1,650-metre event on Wednesday at Happy Valley and he looked in prime condition as he finished his work. The youngster impressed winning at Sha Tin two starts back before finishing a close second to On Fire at the city track last time.
He looked a little at sea on that occasion but has come on from the run and the experience gained will hold him in good stead next week.
Joyful Star found the trip much too short for him last time and it would be wise to put a pen through the performance.
