Two migrant children excelling at school face having their lives turned upside down.
Chan Siu-kwan, 15, and her brother Siu-lok, 13, were smuggled into Hong Kong by boat in October 1997 to join their parents.
Their father, Chan Yee-shing, a catering worker who came to Hong Kong in 1979, said it was unfair to send his children back.
'My children are doing great in school. They will have problems re-adjusting to the mainland if they are sent back.
'I don't know what will happen to them without the supervision of myself or my wife.' They are now studying in Primary Five and Six at a Tai Po school.
Mr Chan's wife was allowed to come to Hong Kong in 1996. The children were born before he qualified for residency by spending seven years in the SAR.
