Martin Lee Chu-ming caused a stir when, in an off-the-cuff remark, he said he despised Elsie Leung Oi-sie. Apparently angered by the Secretary for Justice's defence of the government position, Mr Lee said: 'I very much despise this person.' Miss Leung, clearly taken aback, replied: 'I came here today to answer questions from legislators. 'If members have any criticisms to make, there are many venues where they can express them.' Then, as the special House Committee meeting was about to end, the Democratic Party chairman said: 'We have to thank the Secretary three times for sharing so much time with us. We are very, very, very grateful to her.' Miss Leung spent about 30 minutes at the meeting.
