Nineteen pro-democracy legislators walked out of the chamber after they failed to adjourn debate on a motion supporting the government decision. All 13 Democratic Party members, four from The Frontier, Christine Loh Kung-wai from the Citizens Party and non-affiliated Andrew Wong Wang-fat took part. Democratic Party members, wearing dark suits, black ties and white flowers, said they were mourning the death of the rule of law and a high degree of autonomy. 'It's unprecedented that so many colleagues in the chamber join us in a walkout. What the Government has done is deal a serious blow to the rule of law,' said Martin Lee Chu-ming, Democratic Party chairman. Mr Wong, a former Legco president, said there was no reason why the Government motion should not be adjourned for a week to allow the public to better understand the various options. Ms Loh said the dignity of Legco needed to be protected and maintained. Asked whether party members would resign from Legco in protest, party whip Szeto Wah said they would not. 'But if Mr Tung resigns, I will follow him,' he said.
