THE Government does not plan to ask Beijing to reinterpret the Basic Law over a court case involving defacing the national flag, Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung Oi-sie said. But she would not say if it ruled out approaching the NPC Standing Committee for an interpretation if it lost its appeal over the ruling. 'This has not yet happened. I will not make such promise,' she said. But Ms Leung said the Government had no plans to seek a reinterpretation. The Court of Final Appeal gave the Government the go-ahead on Thursday to appeal against a March ruling which quash convictions against activists Lee Kin-yun and Ng Kung-siu. They were accused of defacing the national flag in a peaceful pro-democracy protest on January 1 last year.
