An historic Communist Party building in Liaoning province is under threat of demolition.
The future of the former Fengtian Spinning Factory's offices hangs on the ability of Shenyang's Cultural Relics Bureau preventing the owner, Shenyang Weaving Factory, from knocking it down to make way for housing.
The building housed a worker's movement organised by Liu Shaoqi when he was party secretary of Manchurian province. Liu became president in 1959 but died in 1969 after persecution.
According to the Guangming Daily, all that is left of the building is its frame. The doors and windows have been removed and the staircases damaged.
The bureau has put a preservation order on the building but the weaving factory is determined to go ahead with its housing plan.
