THE growing severity of environmental pollution has raised public alarm, as the many letters to newspapers testify. A group of students decided to bring their concern directly to the people charged with monitoring the territory's environment.

About 50 secondary school students recently met Dr Stuart Reed, Director of the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), to express their concern for the environment.

The students were members of Project Green Hope, a programme organised by Friends of the Earth (FoE).

The exercise was aimed at encouraging students to be ''environmentally friendly'' and to exchange experiences on environmental protection.

During the meeting, Dr Reed answered questions from the students and gave them practical advice on how to protect the environment.
