Local National People's Congress members and Security Bureau officials have promised to move quickly to rescue a businessman detained on the mainland for more than a month. Peter Leung Wing-sum, 42, has been held by a Jiyuan ceramics factory in Henan since April 3 because the factory failed to recover $4 million owed by his former employer. The factory is now demanding $1.5 million for his release. His wife, helped by Ho Hei-wah, director of the Society for Community Organisation, lodged the case with the Legislative Council Secretariat Complaints Division yesterday. James To Kun-sun, chairman of Legco's security panel, who took up the complaint, said: 'Since the man is not in the hands of mainland public officers but people from the factory, it is a bit complicated to handle.' Secretary for Security Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee had promised to help, he said. Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai and Allen Lee Peng-fai, both local deputies to the NPC, had also promised to talk to Jiyuan Public Security Bureau. Relatives of Lok Yuk-shing, 63, who has been held in Inner Mongolia for almost a year, also filed a complaint with Legco yesterday.
