Pirated copies of the new Star Wars blockbuster are on sale in Hong Kong and Macau - less than a week after its US release.
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace began screening in the United States last Wednesday and is scheduled to be screened in the SAR in July.
But the Motion Pictures Association found pirated video compact discs of the film selling for $25 to $30 for a set of two discs at 17 shops in Mongkok and about 10 other shops at Kwai Chung Plaza on Tuesday.
The price was down to $20 for a set at a plaza in Shamshuipo yesterday.
Director of the association's Hong Kong and Macau anti-piracy operation unit Sam Ho Wai-hung said the film's distributor, 20th Century Fox, had not made any video copies of the film.
The VCDs found in Hong Kong were pirated copies recorded from cinemas, Mr Ho said.
