Charles Yang and his socialite friends get their 15 minutes of fame on Sunday night when they take part in a short drama called The Banquet on TVB Jade. Part of the Community For The Chest TV Show , the 15-minute drama is about a character called Grandpa Chow, a wealthy and successful businessman, who throws a dinner banquet and invites nine guests. 'Grandpa Chow started off poor but now he has made lots of money so he wants to thank all those people who have helped him while he was struggling,' says Charles, chairman of the TV show's organising committee. The nine guests are a diverse range of famous characters - some real, some fictional, some living, some dead - who are played by socialites. The cast: Charles as an ancient Chinese swordsman, Lawrence Yu as footballer Ruud Gullit, Betty Sun is Madame Butterfly, Cheng Ming Ming is Eva Peron, Nina Lam plays movie star Chan Po-chu, Lili Tsang as Dame Margot Fontaine, Lucylia Rohmig as Cleopatra, Christina Man as Eliza Doolittle and Sophia Kao as Marilyn Monroe. Grandpa Chow is played by professional actor Wu Fung. According to Charles, the script was not strictly followed and a lot of the dialogue was improvised. 'Unlike the professional actors, we needed time to warm up and there was plenty of takes. It took us 11 hours of filming just to get 15 minutes of airtime.' The Community Chest celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and the TV show is the finale for its year-long fund-raising campaign. The Chest supports 140 organisations which in turn help hundreds of thousands of people. This is the fifth year that the Chest has joined forces with TVB to produce the three-hour variety show. Organisers hope to raise $15 million through its 18282 telephone hotline.
