Much more action than normal for a Friday yesterday at Sha Tin.

But with the season winding down, trainers were keen to get some serious work into their charges.

Leading the way was David Hayes and his impressive newcomer Noble Challenge, a son of Mukaddamah, impressed as he picked up the last quarter of an 800-metre workout.

The three-year-old is down to contest a 1,200-metre Class Four event next Wednesday at Happy Valley and, although the city track has proven a graveyard for debutants this season, on this work he is going to take a power of beating.

Hayes sent Perfect Model out to win first-up recently at the Valley and the massive four-year-old has made good progress since.

He now finds himself in Class One but the gelding looked well up to handling the promotion as he did similar work to Noble Challenge.

Basil Marcus allowed him to idle the first 400 metres before picking up to put the last quarter behind him in 22.8 seconds.

Happy Boy was unlucky to lose last time out when carried off the track in the straight and he looks right at his top now.

The gelding finished off his gallop in style for promising apprentice Howard Cheng and should be able to pick up a race from his present mark in the closing weeks.

Peter Ng is enjoying a successful finish to an otherwise disappointing season.

And the run may not have ended as his impressive newcomer Mundahish again caught the eye as he went over a solid 800 metres with stablemate Happy Tycoon. Mundahish was one of the stars of the final Happy Valley trial session last Saturday and his debut is awaited with anticipation.

Dr Win has looked to be potentially one of the best griffins out this term and he continues to improve with each and every gallop.

The three-year-old was not asked to make time as he went over 800 metres with Habanero but there was no doubting his quality.

Habanero has dropped to a competitive mark and he could easily surprise if Ricky Yiu can find a suitable race in the final meetings.

Meanwhile, two trials were held on the dirt with the ultra-consistent Cavalo taking the first from Flowers Treasure and New Trumps, while Straight Way easily won the second heat from Good Relation and Truly Delighted.

Others to work well were Hollywood Star, God Of Wealth, Return A Smile and Sky's The Limit.
