Pro-democracy figures can never forget the Tiananmen massacre. It has been inscribed into their daily lives. From mobile phone and pager numbers to bank account PIN codes, 64 and 89 are never far from their thoughts. 'Since the June 4 massacre, I always take out $6,400 whenever I use the cash machine,' said Cheung Man-kwong of the Hong Kong Alliance in support of the Patriotic Democratic Movement in China. Unionist legislator Lee Cheuk-yan also uses June 4-related figures as the codes to his savings account. He said: 'It's easy to remember and it also brings out the key message: don't forget June 4,' he said. The figures '6464' and '8964' have also proved popular as pager account numbers or the last four digits of their mobile phone numbers. Other users include former general secretary of the Hong Kong Federation of Students Richard Tsoi Yiu-cheong, legislator Cyd Ho Sau-lan and Apple Chan Mei-ping of The Frontier. But alliance chairman Szeto Wah and Democratic Party chairman Martin Lee Chu-ming said they did not have June 4-related figures for personal use. 'It's fine to commemorate the June 4 massacre in one's heart. It's not a must to educate people about it in this way. What's more, not every one can afford to do so,' Mr Szeto said. Mr Lee said: 'I'm not crazy about figures. It's troublesome to specially pick them.'
