An SAR businessman was lured into a sex-trap, drugged and then killed in his Guangdong home before robbers made off with $1.4 million in cash and valuables, mainland police believe.

 They have arrested three people, including a nightclub hostess who the man, surnamed Lin, 46, is said to have visited before his death.

 The hostess, Han Ping, her boyfriend, Wei Jinbo, 33 and another friend Duan Hongsheung, 35, were arrested in March and April in Hefei by a special taskforce of the Shantao Public Security Bureau.

 Lin lived in a flat in an exclusive district of Shantao where he had property investments.

 On February 10, Lin's half-naked, gagged and bound body was found in a seventh-floor room of the block of flats, according to a report in the Guangzhou Daily yesterday.

 Police believe he was suffocated the previous day.

 Public Security Bureau officers said the state of Lin's eighth-floor bedroom suggested the victim had engaged in sexual behaviour before he died.

 Property worth a total of 1.5 million yuan (HK$1.4 million) - including a drawing by renowned Chinese painter Zhang Daqian, six expensive watches, a diamond ring, four jade pendants, a mobile phone and 200,000 yuan in cash - were stolen.

 'In late January, Wei and Duan visited Han in Shantao, asking her to find a wealthy man who could make three of them rich overnight,' the report said.

 Han allegedly mixed some sleeping pills with wine and asked Lin to drink it in the bedroom on February 9.

 Wei and Duan, who were called to the flat after Lin fell unconscious, said they tied him up and took him down to the seventh floor, the report said.

 They woke Lin up and forced him to say where he kept his valuables, it is alleged.

 A trial date has not yet been set.
