Winning teams of the BSPU/SCMP Web Design Competition received their prizes and certificates from Financial Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen at a presentation ceremony at the Island Shangri-la last Saturday.
The 12 teams were from the primary, secondary and open categories. Their projects were selected from 393 entries submitted by 1,644 youths.
The competition was organised by the Business and Services Promotion Unit of the Financial Secretary's Office and the South China Morning Post.
Mr Tsang, who was chairman of the central judging panel, said he was impressed by the high standard of the projects.
He said the general consensus among the judges was that the entries were excellent and that, if they were anything to go by, Hong Kong's youth already got to grips with computers.
Post editor Jonathan Fenby said taking part in a Web design competition helped young people prepare for the 21st century. It also allowed youths to show off their talents in the use of information technology (IT) and their communication skills, originality and creativity.
The competition was launched last October. Contestants were asked to design Web sites on different themes - 'Hong Kong for Kids' in the pri mary category, 'Hong Kong as a Service Economy' in the secondary category and 'Hong Kong: The City that Means Business' in the open category.
