Despite implementing an exhaustive four-year programme to tackle the year-2000 (Y2K) problem worldwide, the Hong Kong branch of Danish carrier Maersk Line is still not taking any chances.
It has established a Y2K management taskforce which will ensure that the company is fully prepared for any possible crisis leading up to and during the transition period.
'The taskforce is ready for every possibility, from network glitches to power failure,' Ulrik Brandt, managing director of Maersk Hong Kong, said.
Taskforce members will be on duty from December 29 to January 5 to deal with any problems that might occur and ensure minimum disruption.
'In today's global economy, disruptions to the transport of goods can have dire consequences, not only to individual businesses, but entire industries and economies,' Mr Brandt said.
He said the carrier had dedicated all necessary resources to meet the challenge of any Y2K threat as early as possible.
