If you want to impress your friends by cooking Thai home-style dishes, Pam Sreshthaputra is conducting classes at Siam Thida, her small takeaway restaurant on Lyndhurst Terrace. Award-winning Italian wines from the Zenato Winery will be served at a dinner on Tuesday at the Regal Hong Kong's Riviera restaurant. The evening starts with a tasting presented by Virginia Davies and Tony Kwai of Valdivia Italian Wines. The five-course dinner includes the 93 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico with grilled beef tenderloin; it's $488 plus 10 per cent; call 2837-1799.

Oliver's in the Prince's Building is currently undergoing refurbishment, and will be closed until June 24. A temporary store has been set up at shop 245 in the Prince's Building, with limited items available; telephone orders can be made on 2730-9309.

Next Wednesday will see the opening of Maman Wine Bar and Restaurant in the Regal Kowloon Hotel. Maman will have a selection of 400 wines, including more than 50 wines by-the-glass, plus Provencal home-cooking by chef Bertrand Raguin. Call 2722-1818 ext 8618.

Mexican seems to be the flavour of the month at some local hotels. Cafe Vienna at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile has a Mexican Fiesta until June 27 (see WE Party, page 10).
