PEACE RESTAURANT 3/F Pearl City, 32 Paterson Street, Causeway Bay Tel: 2890-9966 Open: 11am-midnight This is one of our favourite Shanghainese restaurants in Causeway Bay. The quietly decorated narrow room has small, cushioned booths lining one long wall; along the other is a refrigerated case holding cold dishes, and a windowed room where you can watch chefs pleating dumplings and rolling glutinous rice balls.
As at most Shanghainese restaurants, cold dishes are light and refreshing. We love the chicken in wine sauce, sesame-flavoured jellyfish, and crunchy and spicy paper thin shaved beef.
The pork leg with fresh vegetables has the correct meltingly soft texture that comes from being braised slowly, and the sauce is thick and rich.
We also enjoy the peppery eel with garlic and leeks, the steamed or pan-fried dumplings, and the Shanghai fried noodles.
If you can manage, leave room for dessert. Their black sesame filled tong yuen (boiled glutinous flour dumplings) are some of the best in town.
