G.V. Gardner ('Campaign for locals' wages', South China Morning Post, June 8) seems to be hoist with his/her own petard.
His assertion that (fast-food workers) 'would require more than 60 hours per week (work) to receive an equivalent salary of a domestic helper's wage' perfectly illustrates the point made by many correspondents.
Domestic workers have a six-day week, and most work an absolute minimum of 10 hours a day. How many amahs does Ms/Mr Gardner know who begin work at 6.30am and decide to 'call it quits' at 4.30pm? Get real. I think most domestic workers would consider a 60 hour week a short one.
Save your pity for them, instead of people with set hours, set conditions and families close enough to care for them.
