The Hong Kong Housing Society's sale of its sandwich-class housing project, Bel Air Heights in Diamond Hill, is expected to draw buyers because of its discount pricing.

Only households with a monthly income of $31,001 to $60,000 are eligible to apply for purchases in the scheme. Public housing tenants may also apply.

Bel Air Heights, already completed, comprises 798 units measuring 568 square feet to 834 sq ft in four blocks next to the Diamond Hill MTR Station.

The average price is $3,150 per sq ft, representing a discount of 20-30 per cent to market values. Unit prices range from $1.54 million to $2.93 million. Estate agents said the discounted prices would attract buyers qualified for the scheme.

Midland Realty's assistant sales manager in Diamond Hill, Ricky Chiu, said it would not have been possible for families to buy private-sector flats of similar size at that price.

The scheme would attract families eligible to take advantage of the lower costs and the units should be absorbed in the end, he said.
